Drugs worth Rs 1,800 crore have been seized in Gujarat. About 300 kg of methamphetamine was seized. The drugs were seized by the Coast Guard.
ATS Inspector GM Patel said that there was an attempt to smuggle about 400 kg of drugs to Tamil Nadu. The authorities said that the seized drug cache will be shifted to Porbandar for detailed examination. Meanwhile, the details of the accused involved in the incident have not been released yet. The operation was conducted in the sea near the International Maritime Boundary Line based on intelligence. The operation was launched after the Gujarat ATS provided information about an attempt to smuggle drugs. The ICG ship, which was deployed in a multi-mission role in the North Maharashtra-South Gujarat maritime area, was working quickly to intercept the suspicious boat.
When the ICG ship approached the boat, the boat’s occupants tried to throw the drug cargo into the sea and fled towards the border. The ICG ship immediately sent a team on board to recover the abandoned contraband and also pursued and apprehended the escaped boat.
