Banglore: Protests continue in Karnataka as educational institutions and police crack down on the hijab ban. In South Kannada, the ban on school and college premises has been extended to 26.
At Shivamogga Shiralakoppa Pre-University College, 58 students wearing hijab were suspended. Tensions were high in Yedagir, Bellary, Belagavi and Chitradurga on Saturday, blocking students.
Belagavi Vijpara Medical College has been closed indefinitely. Students boycott class at Harihara SJVP College, Dhawangare. Umbrella student protests intensified. Police have registered a case against 15 students of Empress College in Tumkur for allegedly violating the ban.
The situation in the state continues to be tumultuous as the High Court ban on the hijab continues. Home Minister Araga Gyanendra has said that stern action will be taken against those who wear hijab and disobey the interim order of the high court.
