New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for an hour after opposition members raised concerns over the hike in fuel and LPG prices. The Speaker did not allow the notice issued by the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge asking the House to suspend the fuel price hike and discuss it.
The issue can be discussed along with the request for funds. Informed by Venkaiah Naidu. Unsatisfied, Congress members chanted slogans and adjourned the House till 11 am.
Kharge said prices of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas were rising in the country despite falling crude oil prices in the international market. Petrol price has come close to Rs 100 per liter. Diesel costs more than Rs 80. The government has raised Rs 21 lakh crore through excise duty and cess. Kharge said the people were suffering because of this and the issue should be stopped and discussed in the assembly.
