Lucknow: A fire broke out at a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh. The fire broke out in the cardiology ward. About 150 patients were reportedly being treated at the time of the blaze. Authorities said the patients were safely evacuated by police, firefighters, and locals. The accident took place at a government hospital in Kanpur around 8 am. The fire was brought under control.
Police Commissioner Azeem Arun said nine people were being treated in the emergency department and their condition was satisfactory.
The fire first broke out in the hospital’s storeroom. The fire did not spread to other sections and avoided a major accident. The state government has announced an inquiry into the incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has sought a report from the district administration and directed the government to ensure treatment for the patients, the government said in a statement.
