Secunderabad: Eight people were killed in a fire at an electric bike showroom in Secunderabad on Monday night. Many people were injured. Police said the fire quickly spread to the hotel above the electric bike showroom.
At the same time, the police clarified that the cause of the fire was suspected to be a short circuit. Heavy smoke spread after the vehicles in the parking area, showroom and basement caught fire. The hotel staff and guests saw the fire and smoke rising and informed the fire brigade.
Firefighters reached the spot and rescued seven people trapped in the building with the help of a crane. The injured were shifted to hospitals in Secunderabad. Minister T Srinivas Yadav said that it is an unfortunate incident and all the injured will be given the best treatment. He said the lodge was occupied by people who had come to the city from other places for work.
A video of people trying to escape the fire and climbing down drain pipelines has gone viral on social media. Home Minister Muhammad Mahmood Ali and City Police Commissioner CV Anand visited the spot. A high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
