New Delhi: Even if you travel wearing an unlicensed helmet, you will be caught by the police. The new amendment to the Motor Vehicle Act states that even if the helmet is not worn properly, a large fine will have to be paid.
The Motor Vehicle Act stipulates a fine of up to Rs 2,000 for not wearing a helmet properly, including not wearing a strap.
Wearing a helmet without BIS or ISI marks will also result in a fine. The action will be taken under Section 194D of the Motor Vehicles Act. A fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed for each violation. By law, the license can be suspended for up to three months. The wearing of unlicensed helmets has been banned since June 1, 2021.
The new measure comes in the wake of an increase in the number of people traveling without a helmet’s strap tied, leading to an increase in accidents.
