New Delhi: After months of controversy, Facebook India executive Anki Das has stepped down. The revelation that Anki Das had sided with the hate speeches of Hindutva organizations while in office had led to a great deal of political debate. But Facebook said Anki Das was not stepping down in the wake of the controversy.
Anki Das was the Director of Public Policy at Facebook India, South-Central Asia. The controversy erupted following an Wall Street Journal article claiming that Facebook was lenient with the BJP in removing hate speech.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Anki Das has put pressure on Hindutva leaders not to remove hate speech during and after the Indian general election.
Opposition parties, including the Congress, have used it politically and attacked the central government as an intruder. However, Facebook responded to the allegations by saying that it had not acted in a partisan manner and that it was providing a place to express its views.
