New Delhi: The DGCA has approved a reduction in ticket prices for baggage-less passengers. The DGCA also allowed airlines to offer discounts on fares for passengers traveling with cabin luggage only. This has increased the likelihood of low-cost air travel.
Currently, cabin luggage is allowed up to seven kg. Up to 15 kg can be carried as check-in baggage. There is a charge for extra weight. According to the DGCA circular, those traveling with or without cabin luggage will be able to get a discount on the ticket price. The DGCA has permitted airlines to offer discounts on fares for such passengers. To take advantage of this, passengers will have to declare the weight of their luggage at the time of booking the ticket.
Airlines will have to publish the revised ticket price based on the DGCA circular. Companies may have to set special rates for baggage users. The DGCA also allowed airlines to set rates for other services such as priority seats and on-flight food delivery.
