The first girls’ cricket team from India to tour the UAE was flagged off by Stuart Keeler, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Control Room), at the Press Club here today.
The team, Fingent Pathbreakers, will be playing six matches in Ajman, Sharjah and Dubai, said Sonia Anirudhan, CEO, Play True, a player-management company which is organising the tour under its girls-empowerment initiative called For HER.
The team’s playing jerseys were unveiled by Dileep Mathew, Sr Vice President of Fingent, which is the title sponsor of the tour, Amit Nair, CEO, Spericorn Technology, Co-sponsor, and Vipin Austin, Deputy General Manager, Indian Oil Corporation, Associate Sponsors.
“Social impact is one of our core values, and this pioneering tour fits the bill,” said Jacob.
Amit said: “Such tours are important for empowering girls as in the coming years we will see more girls coming into sports.” Austin said the Indian Oil Corporation has always supported sports, and it is meaningful that such tours are supported.
Anirudhan said the tour has been supported by many individuals who believe in supporting girls empowerment. Denise Jacob, director, Carpus Media, delivered the vote of thanks. The tour is also supported by Flora Hospitality and Paragon.
