Nagpur: A lockdown has been announced in Nagpur amid rising Covid cases in Maharashtra. Authorities announced a week-long shutdown from March 15 to 21.
In Nagpur alone, 1710 people were newly diagnosed with the virus yesterday. This is the first time in 173 days that the number of cases has increased. Authorities said they would not allow anything other than the required services. Covid cases are more common in women and people between the ages of 21 and 40.
Amidst a spurt in COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra government has imposed a night curfew in two more districts – Kalyan-Dombivli and Nandurbar – in the state. The authorities decided after Kalyan-Dombivli recorded 392 new coronavirus positive cases on Tuesday.
While issuing the order, the Kalyan-Dombivli district administration said that the Shiva temple in the area will not be open for devotees on the occasion of Shivratri on March 11.
As per the order issued by Kalyan-Dombivli municipal commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi, shops will be permitted to remain open for five days from 7 am till 7 pm from Thursday onwards. Shops will be allowed to operate on an alternate day basis on Saturday and Sunday.
The wedding ceremonies will take place between 7 am and 9 pm.
During the night curfew, no customers will be served at bars and restaurants after 11 pm.
Emergency services and medical stores will be exempted from the restrictions.
