Kannur: The Chief Minister flagged off the first cargo ship from Kannur Azheekal port. The CM attended the function online. The CM said that the government was giving top priority to water transport. The government is committed to ensuring facilities for the industry. Waterways are an alternative to busy road traffic. The CM added that the government will start projects with this in mind.
The CM also said that Kollam would be included in the next phase of the project connecting Kochi, Beypore, and Azhikkal ports. The maiden voyage of a large cargo ship from Azhikkal with plywood for export to Malaysia. Eight containers of Western India Plywood are being transported to Kochi. The ship is heading directly to Kochi from Azheekal. After a long wait, the cargo ship reached Azheekal on Saturday.
The MV Hope Seven arrived at Azheekal via Beypore from Kochi. The ship was received by Azhikode MLA KV Sumesh. This ship is going to Kochi with cargo. The large cargo ship is being operated on a trial basis as part of an effort to start regular service from Kochi to Azheekal via Beypore and back.
