New Delhi: The Central Government has permitted Ayurvedic doctors to perform surgeries in the country. Permission is granted to perform general surgeries, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopedics, and dentistry. Postgraduate students can practice these. To this end, the Central regulations Council of Medicine of 2016 amended. The curriculum for postgraduate students will include shalya (general surgery) and shalakya (ear, nose, and throat). There will be training in two streams on Shastrakia’s MS Shalya Tantra and MS Ayurveda Shalakya Tantra. Allow specialized Ayurvedic doctors to perform the surgery.
Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association has come out against the central government’s decision. The IMA said modern medicine should not be tied with traditional therapies such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.
