New Delhi: Central and Assam governments sign peace deal with separatist outfit ULFA. Currently, the two sides have signed an agreement aimed at solving issues such as illegal immigration, land rights for indigenous communities and development of Assam.
16 ULFA representatives including Arabinda Rajkoa came to sign the agreement. Another faction of ULFA led by Paresh Barua stayed away from this. Amit Shah said that all reasonable demands of ULFA will be considered. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma also opined that the peace agreement with ULFA will solve the problems in the region to a large extent.
ULFA was banned in the country since 1990 as a terrorist organization. Similarly, in 2011 they had also signed a tripartite agreement between the Center and the state of Assam.
