New Delhi: Canada recalled 41 diplomats from India. The 41 people were recalled after India gave a warning that it would withdraw diplomatic protection except for 21 people. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolly said that facilities have been arranged for them to leave India safely.
At the same time, he also criticized this action of India. Melanie Joly also criticized the cancellation of the diplomatic protection of the officials as against international law.
Canada has 62 diplomatic missions in India. India has demanded parity between the two countries in terms of diplomatic representatives. India-Canada relations deteriorated after Khalistan separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed in Canada. Subsequently, issuance of Indian visas to Canadians was banned from September 18.
