New Delhi: Supreme Court says that ED can also take action against those who give bribes. The court directed that the ED can file a case against the bribe payers under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
Bribery is also an offense under the Prevention of Corruption Act and falls under the purview of the PMLA, the court said. The Supreme Court issued the order on a petition filed by the ED Chennai Zonal Office.
At the same time, the Supreme Court had ordered to take strict action against those who conduct two-finger tests in rape cases. The action was based on the observation that the two-finger test is re-victimizing the survivors. Stating that the test has no scientific basis, the court directed that it be removed from the curriculum of medical colleges. The order came from a bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli.
