Thiruvananthapuram: Black fungus has been confirmed in two districts in Kerala. Black fungus has been confirmed in Covid patients in Malappuram and Kollam. The left eye of the person who confirmed the fungus in Malappuram was removed. The eye of a Tirur Ezhoor resident was removed to prevent the fungus from spreading to the brain. This is the first time black fungus has been reported in both districts.
Abdul Khader, a native of Tirur, Ezhoor, was diagnosed with black fungus while undergoing home treatment after Covid treatment. He was rushed to a private hospital in Kottakal for treatment and later shifted to Kozhikode for specialist treatment. Khader was diagnosed with black fungus on the 7th of this month.
