Allahabad: Four persons have been sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2005 Ayodhya terror attack case. The Allahabad special court awarded the death sentence. The fifth accused in the case was acquitted after being found not guilty. The accused were also fined Rs 2.4 lakh. Fourteen years after the Ayodhya terror attack, the special court in Prayag Raj ruled the case.
Seven people, including five Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed and three CRPF personnel were injured in the attack. UP police arrested Irfan, Aashiq Iqbal (Farooq), Shakeel Ahmed, Mohammed Naseem, and Mohammed Aziz.
They were arrested for aiding terrorists. Muhammad Aziz was acquitted in the case. The sentencing comes just 14 years after the incident. On July 5, 2005, a temporary temple in the disputed area of Ayodhya was attacked. The terrorists, disguised as pilgrims, set off a bomb in a rented jeep and exploded. Terrorists also fired ammunition, including a rocket launcher. Five terrorists were killed in the clashes. Two villagers also were killed.
