Chennai: The elephant Arikomban caught from Idukki Chinnakanal and taken to Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary attacked a Tamil Nadu ration shop. Arikomban tried to break into the ration shop in Manalar Estate around 2 o’clock on Sunday.
The shop window was partially broken. But rice is not taken. Then at night, the wild cat went to the forest. Reports say that he crossed the border and entered the Kerala forest area after the attack.
Arikomban, who was a constant nuisance in Chinnakanal, was caught in late April after being drugged and released into the Periyar Tiger Sanctuary. Arikomban was released in the Periyar Tiger Sanctuary after being fitted with a radio collar. Arikomban was exposed in the forest between Metakanam and Mullakudi near Mangaladevi temple.
