Amravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has reshuffled his cabinet. The new cabinet will have 11 members from the first cabinet and 13 newcomers. Governor Bishwa Bhushan Harichandan administered the oath of office to the 25 members at a public function near the State Secretariat in the capital city of Amravati.
Senior legislator Dharmana Prasada Rao was also included in the cabinet. The new cabinet will adhere to the caste and regional equations. In the cabinet, which gives priority to backward classes, two members, including the Chief Minister, are from the minority community, five from the Scheduled Castes and one from the Scheduled Tribes.
The cabinet has four women members. Out of the total 26 districts in the state, at least seven were not represented in the new cabinet. The ruling YSR Congress has described the cabinet as a “social cabinet” with 70 per cent representation of BCs, SCs, STs and minorities.
When his first cabinet was formed in June 2019, the Chief Minister had announced that after two and a half years (December 2021) the reforms would be carried out and 90 per cent newcomers would be brought in and only 10 per cent (3 members) would be retained. Amsat Basha, who was the Deputy Chief Minister in the previous cabinet, re-appointed Sheikh Bepari and K Narayana Swamy. S Appala Raju, CH Venugopal Krishna, G Jayaram and T Vanitha got another chance on caste basis. Film star RK Roja also joined the cabinet.
