Ahmedabad: A total of 49 accused have been convicted in a series of bomb blasts in Ahmedabad. 28 accused acquitted. A special Gujarat court has convicted 49 people in connection with the 2008 Ahmedabad blasts. The sentence will be announced today.
The trial began in December 2009. The trial was completed in September 2021 in a case involving 77 defendants. During the years-long trial, more than 1,100 witnesses were questioned. On July 26, 2008, bombs exploded in various parts of Ahmedabad.
Within 70 minutes, 56 people were killed in 21 blasts in the city. Police had identified the militant group Indian Mujahideen as the mastermind behind the blast. Gujarat police had earlier arrested 85 people in connection with the case. However, the trial has started against 78 accused. Meanwhile, someone apologized.
