Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has predicted widespread heavy rains in the state for the next five days. A yellow alert has been announced in six districts today because of heavy rains. Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts are on yellow alert. 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rainfall is expected in 24 hours.
A yellow alert was also declared in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts on Saturday. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Palakkad districts are also warned of heavy rain on Sunday.
On Monday and Tuesday, a yellow alert is in place in all districts except Kannur and Kasaragod. The central meteorological department has issued a yellow alert in some districts, but due to the possibility of isolated heavy thundershowers in the hilly areas, caution similar to the orange alert should be observed in the hilly areas which have received heavy rains in the past few days.
The warning states that people in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and hilly areas prone to landslides should be extremely cautious as the rains continue in the areas that have received heavy rains in the past few days.
