Raipur: Security forces killed 29 Maoists in an encounter in Kankar district of Chhattisgarh. During the joint operation by BSF and District Reserve Guards, three jawans were injured in firing.
The security sources had initially informed that the bodies of 18 Maoists had not been recovered. The same notification also stated that more people may have been killed. After this, 11 more bodies were found.
Ten weapons including AK 47 guns, 303 rifles and light machine guns were seized. Seven Maoists have also been arrested alive. This is one of the biggest operations conducted by security forces in Bastar region.
The first attempt to rescue the injured jawans by helicopter failed. Then they were given first aid inside the forest.
With the current operation, the number of Maoists killed in the last four months has risen to 72. This is more than the total number of Maoists killed last year.
