Navi Mumbai: 11 people who participated in the Maharashtra Bhushan Awards ceremony at Gharghar in Navi Mumbai died due to sunstroke. The ceremony was held yesterday in the open ground. Home Minister Amit Shah distributed the award.
The award was given to social activist Appasaheb Dharmadhikari. It is reported that 38 degree temperature was recorded in this area yesterday. 24 people are under treatment. The Chief Minister explained that the state government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased and that the government will bear the hospital expenses of those who sought treatment for sunburn.
Social worker Dattatreya Narayan alias Appasaheb Dharmadhikari was presented Maharashtra Bhushan Award ceremony in Navi Mumbai. Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the award. The event, which was held at the 306 acre ground in Gharghar, started around 11.30 am and lasted till 1 pm.
During the program, 123 people sought treatment for health problems such as dehydration. They were first taken to 30 medical booths set up at the venue. Later, 13 patients who needed further treatment were shifted to different private hospitals, the condition of one of them was critical, officials said.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra State Nationalist Youth Congress Working President Suraj Chavan slammed the Maharashtra government over the incident and tweeted, “Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony held in scorching sun is barbaric.
Due to this, some innocent people died and many people were hospitalized. This all proves the government’s neglect and mismanagement,” he said. Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were also present on the occasion.
