Beijing: Flooding in Sichuan province in southwestern China has left 12 people dead. 10 people went missing. Due to the heavy rains and strong winds that blew in the last few days, the rescue operation could not be done effectively, the authorities said.
Two vehicles on the highway that crashed in the floodwaters fell into the river. Situated on the plains at the bottom of the steep hillsides, 7,705 people were evacuated from the area. The floods that started earlier this month in parts of China left 78 people dead. More than 100,000 homes have been completely or partially damaged. The Ministry of Emergency Management has said it estimates a loss of 25 billion yuan ($ 3.5 billion).
