Thiruvananthapuram: Food packs for children in the pre-primary to the eighth standard included in the midday meal program will be distributed by the Department of Public education from next week. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said this in a press conference. The Chief Minister was speaking to media after the COVID review meeting.
The Department of Public Education will distribute food packets of rice and 9 items of food items in the March, April, and May period to children in the pre-primary to class eight in the mid-day meal program. The scheme will benefit 26,26,763 students in government-aided schools.
The food packets supplied to schools through Supplyco will be distributed to parents in collaboration with the Lunch Committee, PTA, SMC, and Mother PTA in keeping with proper social distance. Headmasters are responsible for the distribution of school supplies. The total cost of the food kit distribution program, led by the Department of Public Education, is Rs.81,37,00,000.
