Kochi: For the first time in history, the High Court held a night sitting. The ship, which was anchored in the Kochi port was prevented from leaving the port at 11.30 last night and held the online sitting. Justice Devan Ramachandran heard the case in a special sitting as the ship was leaving the port this morning. Lawyers and court staff appeared in the case from their homes.
The cargo ship M V Ocean Rose arrived to Amabalamukal FST with Sulfur was prevented by leaving the port through the court by issuing the order.
The action was taken following a complaint that around Rs 2.5 crore was due to supplying water to the ship.
The court was approached by Grace Yang International in Kochi. The court directed the Cochin Port Trust not to allow the ship to leave the port without paying the amount due to the company and the amount required for legal proceedings or giving a proportionate amount of this amount. In an interim order, Justice Devan Ramachandran said the petitioners could approach the court to auction the ship if they did not comply with the court order within 15 days.
