Cheruthony: Earthquake hits Idukki again on Wednesday. The tremors were felt between 7.44 and 8.30 am. The first is 1.5 on the Richter scale and the second is 0.93.
The first earthquake was on February 27 in Idukki. There were two tremendous in a half-hour difference. The quake was followed by five earthquakes in four days till March 1. The quake was felt after a two-day difference.
At present, there is no security threat to the dam. The dam security department has written to the Central Water Commission asking them to monitor the quake. The Chief Engineer said that the team of the Geological Survey of India under the Central Water Commission would arrive soon.
Research Division Executive Engineer Aloshi Paul said, “Surveillance in Idukki, Cheruthoni Dams and areas is continuing.”
