New Delhi: Popular Front leaders arrested in connection with a riot in northeast Delhi that killed 52 people. Popular Front Delhi President Pervez Ahmed and Secretary Mohammed Ilyas have been arrested.
They were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell, which is investigating the riots in Delhi. Mohammed Ilyas had contested from the Karawal Nagar constituency as the SDPI candidate in the Delhi elections.
They have been charged with inciting people to riot and providing financial support for the riots. The arrested suspects will be produced in Patiala House Court soon.
Police constable Ratanlal was killed in a riot in the northeast of New Delhi against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Ratanlal was the head constable of the Gokulpuri police station. A total of 45 people, including a policeman, were killed in the riot.
