Kochi: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday approved for the Plasma test. This is a treatment of antibody therapeutics using the antibody-derived from the COVID-19 free person. Kerala is the first state in the country to offer innovative ‘Convalescent Plasma’ treatment to save the lives of critically ill patients.
Plasma collected once from a person who is completely cured can help keep the life of four people alive. Kerala had prepared the protocol and sought the approval of the ICMR before it was approved in the US. Clinical trials are permitted in people. The study is being conducted by the Sree Chithra Institute for the State Government. With the approval of the Drug Control General of India, it can be tested in critically ill patients, including in medical colleges.
