Bharuch: At least eight people were killed when a fire broke out in a chemical factory in Gujarat. 40 people suffered serious burns. The blast took place at a chemical plant called Yashashvi Rasayan Private Limited in Dahej in Bharuch district. The injured have been admitted to Bharuch Civil Hospital and two other private hospitals.
The blast took place around noon on Wednesday. According to the district administration, more than 4,800 people living in two nearby villages have been evacuated.
Bharuch district disaster management officials said hundreds of workers were hired at the Lakhi village factory in Dahej. Officials say the preliminary conclusion is that the explosion was caused by the reaction between the chemicals stored in the two containers.
The blast took place at a factory where 20 types of chemicals were manufactured. Residents said they heard the blast sounding up to three kilometers away. Bharuch district collector and the disaster management team and the fire brigade arrived at the scene immediately and started the rescue operation. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The collector said the experts would be on the scene to find out how the blast took place.
