Colombo: The economic crisis in Sri Lanka has led to a ban on social media amid protests. A government order issued on Saturday night reportedly banned social media in the country, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and YouTube.
People took to the streets demanding the president’s state. At the same time, the government says it is taking steps to prevent the spread of misinformation. A state of emergency was declared in the country yesterday. Curfew was also announced. The curfew is from 6pm on Saturday to 6am on Monday.
