New Delhi: The prices of about 800 essential medicines, including paracetamol, will go up from today. 872 drugs with price control will increase by 10.7 percent. The increase was 0.5 percent last year and 2 percent in 2020
Paracetamol can cost up to Rs 1.01 per pill (500 mg). Earlier, 500 mg paracetamol was priced at Rs 0.91. Drugs such as azithromycin, ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, and metronidazole, which are prescribed for fever, allergies, heart disease, dermatitis, and anemia, will also increase in price from today.
The latest change is based on WPI data provided by the Office of the Financial Adviser to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPRA) has issued a notice to all concerned seeking further action under the provisions of the Drugs (Price Control) Ordinance 2013.
