Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to increase auto, taxi, and bus fares. The LDF had recommended an increase in rates. Transport Minister Antony Raju told reporters that the minimum bus fare has been increased from Rs 8 to Rs 10.
The rate was later increased from 90 paise to one rupee for each kilometer. The minimum charge for an autorickshaw has been increased to Rs 30. At present, it is Rs 25. It can travel up to two kilometers on a minimum charge. It is currently one and a half kilometers. An additional charge of Rs 15 per km will be levied. At present, the rate is 12 rupees.
At present, the minimum charge for cars up to 1500 cc is Rs 175. It was raised to Rs. The minimum charge is up to 5 km. An additional charge of Rs 18 per km will be levied. At present, the rate is 15 rupees. The minimum charge for taxis above 1500 cc has been increased to Rs 225. At present, it was Rs 200. An additional charge of Rs 20 per km will be levied. At present, it is Rs. 17. The minister said there would be no change in the waiting charge and overnight surcharge.
The bus owners’ demand for an increase in student fares is justified. The minister said a committee would be appointed to look into the matter.
