STORY IDEA

Michael Anjoottikkaran (Mammootty) is an ex-mafia gangster turned businessman who lives with his large big family in Kochi. His word and decision are final in his family which makes some disturbances for other family members. His past activities will make him go through some serious unfortunate events and threats to his loved ones so how Michael Anjoottikkaran saves his family is the rest of the story.

ANALYSIS INTO DIRECTION, STORY, SCREENPLAY & DIALOGUES:

Bheeshma Parvam is directed by Amal Neerad and written by Devadath Shaji and Amal Neerad also joins in the writing. Ravi Shankar has written the additional script and RJ Murugan does the additional dialogues. The film is produced by the director Amal Neerad under his production company of Amal Neerad Productions and the film is distributed by A & A Release. With a U/A Censor certificate the film is running in theatres holding hundred percent occupancy with a running time of 144 minutes.

What makes Bheeshma Parvam special is the making of Amal Neerad, his direction and his execution-style is what makes the movie worth watching. The direction held by Amal Neerad was completely passionate, his clear cut idea on how to execute the film and what are all the things needed to make the audience happy was brilliantly added in Bheeshma Parvam. The film offers many best stunning moments, the various elements which were added to the screenplay will give many thrilling moments. The audience won’t feel any kind of lag, from the beginning till the end the film provides the best scenes to cherish. Not even a second was boring, the film was having the power to make us thrill and engaging which will compel us to make some applause for the terrific scenes of Mammootty.

The screenplay was filled with accurate scenes and the keen making of Amal Neerad made the entire film look stylish. The making was classy, how he had directed the film and his way of approach in making according to the script proves his intelligence in film making. Also how Amal Neerad used an actor like Mammootty needs to be specially mentioned because he had utilised every single acting skill of Mammootty. Amal Neerad’s ideas on how to perform and how to undertake the character and finally how to express the different shades of the character was glaringly seen in the performance of Mammootty. After Big B Amal Neerad is teaming with Mammootty so he knows the expectation of the audience therefore he had cleverly understood those expectations and directed the film in a masterly manner. So the film won’t disappoint anyone, one will be happy after watching Bheeshma Parvam because it’s the recent best of Mammootty.

The mix of elements in the script was catchy, the film goes through different emotions such as trust, romance, family sentiment, betrayal and revenge so how all these are connected with the situations and how these emotions pass through the various circumstances makes the writing best. The screenplay was added with many thrilling scenes and action sequences play an important role in the script. Also, some twists and climax suspense are added to the writing which matched the scenarios. How the script and making makes an impact in the viewing experience is the highlight, everything was placed at the right time and how the story connects to the main plot and its unfolding incidents was interesting to watch. How the story is going to step into the main plot was making the theatre experience exciting and finally, when the story reached the actual genre of revenge the film was making the mind gripping. An eagerness to know what is next was able to be provided by the film so throughout the first half and the second half the movie will keep us hooked on, offering the best cherishing moments to make some whistle for Mammootty.

The dialogues were completely influencing, Amal Neerad movies always promise to give punch dialogue and Bheeshma Parvaam doesn’t make that expectation wrong. The dialogues in the film were extraordinary, lots of dialogues will compel us to make some huge clap. Mammootty’s mass scenes had the backup of strong influencing dialogues. All the crucial scenes are getting ended with some impactful dialogues and none of them went wrong. While watching I was sure that the writers were having a clear cut idea of how to impress the audience through the words and the writers had done their part well and had given the correct dialogues for every actor.

The drawback I felt is the predictable way of storytelling, after the 15 minutes of the film we will get a clear idea about the whole story, how the story is going to be and how the plot is going to end. This predictable story is not a major drawback because this predictability was neutralized with the class making. The making will help the viewer’s mind not to think deeply about the plot, Amal Neerad provides the stylish direction and the performance of Mammootty will make us forget about this issue. Another negative was the climax, the ending was good but wasn’t fully satisfying. An impact in the climax was slightly missing, how the villain is getting killed and how the hero traps him lacks a punch, the climax suspense was not having the right amount of impact. I wish the climax could have been made better but still, it was good to watch but an extra power was missing, made simple and the ending was hurried.

  • PERFORMANCES OF ACTORS

Mammootty is the antagonist and the casting of Bheeshma Parvam includes Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Farhaan Faasil, Shine Tom Chacko, Dileesh Pothan, Sudev Nair, Jinu Joseph, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Lena, Nadhiya Moidu, Anagha, Veena Nandakumar, Srindaa, Harish Uthaman, Maala Parvathy, Abu Salim and Pauly Valsan.

Bheeshma Parvatham offers one of the stellar performances of Mammootty. It was like a classic performance, the attitude of the character which he maintained throughout the film was one of the imororat aspects which I liked. His dialogue delivery was crammed with a style and the spontaneous way of expressing the dialogue was also adequate. In the dialogue his timings were precise and the anger which he denotes was also great. The action sequences were energetically done by Mammootty and the manner he performed in the action sequences was amusing to watch.  Age is just a number, Mammootty had once again proved it, his commitment was seen throughout and as usual, he had given his best. Mammootty’s character was having an unusual attitude and how he attained it and also how he exhibited it was fascinating to watch. His screen presence was making the theatre experience awesome and his fans were celebrating his brilliant show, a recent best FDFS.

Soubin Shahir as Ajas Ali did a convincing performance. His fight in the second half was nice to watch. The emotional sequences were handled perfectly and shared a great space with Mammootty in the second half. Sreenath Bhasi as Ami Ali shined with his cool youth look, his dressing of the ’80s looked charming. His action sequences in the first half and attitude with anger matches the script. Farhaan Faasil as Paul Anjoottikkaran and Shine Tom Chacko as Peter Anjoottikkaran appear to play a throughout character with negative shade and they portrayed their role well with the best negative touch. Sudev Nair as Rajan is the main villain and makes the appearance just before the interval and he delivered a fine performance with an awesome attitude and flawless dialogue delivery. Dileesh Pothan as James Anjoottikkaran, Jinu Joseph as Fr. Simon Anjoottikkaran, Harish Uthaman as Martin Anjoottikkaran, Nisthar Sait as Mathai Anjoottkkaran and Dileesh Pothan as James Anjoottikkaran had done their supporting roles with the negative villain images, everyone did complete justice to their respective characters. Nedumudi Venu as Iravippilla and K. P. A. C. Lalitha as Karthyayaniyamma was like a silent cat, their revenge mind was beautiful to watch and both did their best. Anasuya Bharadwaj as Alice Anjoottikkaran, Lena as Susan, Srindaa as Rasiya, Veena Nandakumar as Jessy and Nadhiya Moidu as Fathima Ali do some vital roles and their performance was satisfying. Anagha as Rachel Anjoottikkaran was amazing, her looks and her romantic scenes with Sreenath Bhasi were lovely to watch.

  • MUSIC & BACKGROUND SCORE:

Sushin Shyam had composed the music and background score for Bheeshma Parvam. There are two good songs in the film with some extraordinary background score.

The song “Parudeesa” sung by Sreenath Bhasi is a pure melody, the tune made by Sushij Shyam makes it different and the track stands out in my repeating mode. The lyricist Vinayak Sasikumar had made the song unique through his thoughtful words. As usual, the voice of Sreenath Bhasi was also amazing to hear. The portions of the chorus singers were also pleasing in the hearing. Finally, when heard at the theatre the feel through the big screen was cheering and the visual was lending many positive emotions.

The second song “Aakasham” was like a slow poison, the tune was provoking to remind many beautiful memories. The vocals of Hamsika Iyer and Kapil Kapilan were lovely, a smooth feel was all over and while I was hearing the song it took my mind to a different feel because of their voice. The lyrics of Rafeeq Ahammed we’re catchy and the tabla note in the song was superb. The third song ‘Rathipushpam’ sung by Unni Menon was good but not great, some of the words in the lyrics were sexual.

The background score tuned by Sushin Shyam was extremely powerful and those background scores are one of the winning highlights of Bheeshma Parvam. The background score at the action sequences was flawlessly made and it helped the action sequences to make a mass of heroic feel for Mammootty. The punch dialogue was maintaining an extra influence due to the BGM, whenever these scenes were ending it was backed up by the cheerful background score. The electronic jazz background score was mesmerising and it had given a rocking experience inside the theatre causing applause and loud whistles. The emotional sequence was also balanced by the right background score. A rare signature tune is given for the character of Mammootty and those background tunes had created an extraordinary impact in the viewing experience. So the soundtrack and background score tuned by Sushin Shyam was excellent, one of his best passionate works.

  • TECHNICAL ASPECTS:

Amal Neerad movies are always rich in technical aspects, the kind of stylish making with his advanced technical work by his team makes Amal Neerad film unusual so the expectation was high and Bheeshma Parvam is a profound film of shining technical skills. The cinematography by Anend C Chandran was striking from the very beginning, his shots and his frames were beautiful. The culture of Kochi and the old 90’s style was genuinely captured according to the script. The intense visuals were calibrated to establish the skills of every actor, especially their close-up shots which were enriching with their acting talents. The different moods and emotions of the actors were accurately caught and their various expressions were taken vividly. In the action sequences, the camera movements were at the correct points and the way the cinematographer made those action scenes gave me a thrill and were superb to watch on the big screen. The lighting methods used in the indoor shots and also at the action scenes were faultless, the mix of red light at the action was looking stylish. The editing of Vivek Harshan doesn’t make any mistakes, his cuts were at the right place. The transition of the scenes was also perfect. The colour-grading was very much impressive, depending on the type of stations the grading also changes so it created the right mood. The costume department had given some authentic costumes for every character and it matched the 90’s period, the way the characters dress and the style on their costumes reminded the 90’s cool style. The person who had choreographed the stunts had done a great job, the stunts of Mammootty were exciting and the action suited to his style.

  • CONCLUSION:

So overall to conclude Bheeshma Parvam had given me a wonderful cinematic experience, I had enjoyed watching it on the big screen with a 100 percent housefull audience. The powerful making and the pleasingly written script makes the movie interesting and the energetic performance from Mammoottyy was a treat to watch. The film has got the right factors to entertain us and won’t disappoint anyone. Therefore I will recommend Bheeshma Parvam to everyone and it’s an Amal Neerad Padam with Mammootty and that’s just enough, so grab the tickets and watch it on a big screen.
