Bangalore: The government has said that educational institutions from pre-university in Karnataka will not be open till Wednesday. The final decision will be taken after the meeting tomorrow.
Strong security arrangements have been put in place in case of classes one to ten open on Monday. The government also directed district administrations to convene peace meetings in conflict-prone areas.
Educational institutions in the state have been closed following the hijab controversy. The problems started when Muslim students wearing hijab were denied admission to colleges in Udupi due to pressure from Sangh Parivar organizations. The ban then spread to schools in various districts. The High Court had yesterday issued an interim order directing the schools to reopen. The High Court had also imposed a ban on religious dress in schools.
Meanwhile, rallies and protests were banned in Mysore. The action was taken under Section 144 of the CRPC in the wake of the protest called on the issue of hijab. Prohibition orders will remain in effect until 10 pm tonight. A prohibition has been issued in Udupi also.
