Students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi, clashed. The group turned around wearing hijabs and saffron shawls. The clashes inside the college spread to the streets as they pelted each other with stones and chanted slogans. Clashes broke out between student groups during a protest rally. Police shot the sky to dismiss the protesters in Udupi. Prohibition orders were announced in Shivamogga and Davankara.
Students protested in front of schools in various places against the blocking of hijab wearers. A group of students came to the colleges wearing saffron shawls and saffron hats. High schools and colleges were given three days off in the wake of the clashes. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bomma demanded that peace be maintained. The Karnataka High Court has said that it is not a good sign for students to protest in the streets and that they should set aside their emotions and move forward following the Constitution.
