Chennai: Three people have been arrested in connection with the death of three children in a toilet collapse at a school in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. School administrator Solomon Selvaraj, headmistress Gnanaselvi, and the contractor were arrested. The accident happened at Schaffter Higher Secondary School, an aided school.
The building collapsed on the children who were talking near the toilet building. Eighth class students D Vishwaranjan and K Anpalakan died on the spot while sixth class student R Sutheesh died at the hospital. Three children are being treated at the hospital with serious injuries.
Meanwhile, the school has announced a holiday until further notice as inspections are underway. The rescue operation was carried out by the police and locals. Top officials visited the spot. Chief Educational Officer Subhashini has ordered an inquiry into the incident and a report.
