New Delhi: A decision has been taken to extend the closure of schools due to air pollution in Delhi. The Directorate of Education said online classes will only be available until further notice.
The decision comes as air pollution levels continue to rise. Schools and colleges were closed for a week on November 13 due to air pollution. Air pollution in Delhi has reached between 350 and 400 percent.
Delhi’s contribution to air pollution in the capital is only 31 percent, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said yesterday. The minister said the remaining 69 percent of pollution comes from outside and it is difficult to reduce the level of pollution in this situation.
The Supreme Court has also intervened in the issue of air pollution in the country’s capital and surrounding areas. The Supreme Court questioned whether a lockdown could be imposed. The court also asked the central and state governments what steps have been taken to reduce the level of pollution.
