Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that those living in hilly areas and river banks should be extremely careful. The Central Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in the state from Wednesday, October 20 to Saturday, October 23.
With the end of the major monsoon season, the risk of landslides, and river overflows is very high. Extreme levels of rainfall over a short period can be dangerous. Within a few hours, the risk of major accidents is high. Therefore, the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has issued a stern directive to remain vigilant in hilly areas and river banks till the current situation returns to normal. Expert teams from the GSI and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) have recommended that those living in uninhabitable houses must be relocated to safer camps until the warning expires. It was also suggested that those living in dangerous conditions along the river banks should be relocated until the flow of the rivers returns to normal.
