Thiruvananthapuram: It has been months since theaters open in the state. All the theaters and multiplexes closed by covid in the wake of the second wave will reopen on the 25th of this month. The crucial decision was taken today at a meeting of theater owners. Talks will be held with the theater owners and the government on the 22nd ahead of the opening of the theater.
Earlier, the government had permitted 25 theaters to open. But the theater owners had put forward some demands, including taxes. The owners demanded that the KSEB Fixed Deposit Theater be exempted from non-operational months, that the building tax be waived, and that the entertainment tax be waived. Despite some confusion, the meeting decided to reopen the theaters as per the government’s instructions.
Theaters are set to open six months later. The decision is a relief to the filmmakers, audiences, and theater staff alike who are waiting for the movies to be boxed in. At the same time, those who come to the theater and the staff are required to take 2 doses of the vaccine.
