Srinagar: Two government school teachers, including a woman principal, have been shot dead by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. The deceased have been identified as Supinder Kaur, 44, principal of Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Safkadal in Sangam Eid Gah area of Srinagar, and teacher Deepak Chand.
The gunmen stormed the school at 11.15 am and demanded people’s ID cards. Authorities said the two were then shot in the principal’s office, citing teachers.
The attackers fled the scene after the incident. A large contingent of police and CRPF personnel reached the school and started searching for the attackers. Supinder Kaur, a member of the Sikh community, hails from Alochi Bagh in Srinagar. Deepak Chand is a member of the minority Kashmiri Pandit community.
The ‘Resistance Force’ (TRF), which police say is a shadow of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Dilbag Singh said that the killing of innocent civilians was an attempt to undermine Kashmir’s long-standing religious tradition. He said after visiting the school that the attackers would be caught soon.
