Thiruvananthapuram: Health Minister Veena George on Saturday said that the highest number of people in the state were vaccinated. So far today, 4,53,339 people have been vaccinated. This is the first time in the state that so many people are being vaccinated a day. Only about two lakh vaccines are in stock in the state now, including the 38,860 dosage vaccines that arrived today. That means Sunday is not even enough for everyone to vaccinate. She said vaccination in the state would be in limbo if the central government did not allow more vaccines on Sunday.
With this, the vanity of the propaganda that Kerala has hoarded 10 lakh vaccines has collapsed. Vaccination in the state is higher than the national average. The first dose of vaccination for health workers and front-runners has reached 100 percent. This week alone, about 1.6 million people were vaccinated. With this, the state has proved that it can give more than 4 lakh vaccines a day.
Today there are 1522 vaccination centers. There were 1,380 centers at the government level and 142 centers at the private level. Kannur district was the first state to vaccinate 59,374 people. Thrissur district is just behind Kottayam district with 53,841 people vaccinated and 51,276 people vaccinated.
So far, a total of 1,83,89,973 people in the state have been vaccinated with one or two doses. Of these, 1,28,23,869 were given the first dose and 55,66,104 were given the second dose. According to the 2011 census, 38.39 percent of the total population was given the first dose and 16.66 percent the second dose. According to the census, 53.43 percent of the population over the age of 18 were given the first dose and 23.19 percent the second dose. This is well ahead of the national average.
