Tokyo: Meera Bhai Chanu wins India’s first medal at Tokyo Olympics. Meera Bhai Chanu won the silver medal in the 49 kg weight category. It is 21 years since Karnam Malleshwari won the Olympic medal in weightlifting.
China’s Xiu Ho won the gold medal in the same category. Chanu, who weighed in at 84kg and 87kg, was relegated to second place after failing to lift 89kg. At the same time, the Xiu lifted 94 kg and set an Olympic record in this category.
