Thiruvananthapuram: Delhi native Anil Kant will take over as the state police chief today. Anil Kant has been promoted to the post of Road Safety Commissioner. After the cabinet meeting, Anil Kant said that the safety of women and children is a priority. With the resignation of Loknath Behra today, Anil Kant has been appointed as the new DGP of Kerala.
Anil Kant thanked the Chief Minister and the Police Department and said that the initiatives taken by Loknath Behra would continue. “Thank you all. We will prioritize the safety of women and the safety of children. We will continue with the work started by Loknath Behra. This is not an interview, we will discuss other issues in detail.” Anil Kant said.
Anil Kant, the first officer from the Dalit community to become the state DGP, has been credited with being the first person to become the state police chief. Anil Kant has been shortlisted as the new Chief of Police of Kerala. The others are B Sandhya and Sudesh Kumar.
Anilkant started his service in Kerala cadre as a 1988 batch IPS officer, as ASP in Wayanad. He has served as SP in Thiruvananthapuram Rural and Railways and has also served as Assistant Director, Intelligence Bureau in New Delhi and Shillong. On his return to Kerala, he resumed his duties as the Kochi City Police Commissioner.
