New Delhi: Covid third wave could hit Maharashtra in the next two to four weeks, reports. The warning was issued by the state Covid mission. The third wave is less likely to affect children. But low-income earners are more likely to be affected, the warning said.

A review meeting was convened on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to prepare for the third wave of Covid. It was at this meeting that the mission team shared their observations. In addition to the members of the mission, the state health minister and senior officials also attended the meeting.

The mission estimates that the number of Covid patients in the third wave will double compared to the second wave. In the first wave, 19 lakh cases were reported. In the second wave, 40 lakh cases were reported. There are currently 1.4 lakh active cases. It may reach eight lakhs. The task force estimates that 10% of cases in the third wave, similar to the first two waves, may be reported from children or young people.
