He said the lockdown could not be withdrawn at present as the spread of the Covid virus was not slowing down in any way. As the second wave spread, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the lockdown last Monday. The CM said there was no other option but to take drastic measures to curb the sharp rise in Covid disease.
In Delhi, meanwhile, oxygen shortages remain acute. 700 metric tons of oxygen is needed to overcome the crisis that followed Covid. The Center has released only 10 tonnes of oxygen for Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal himself says that this is not enough to solve the current situation. The Center has increased the daily oxygen supply from 480 tonnes to 490 tonnes. However, the current oxygen crisis can only be resolved by getting at least 700 metric tons of oxygen per day. Despite announcing that 490 tonnes will be provided, only 335 tonnes of oxygen will reach hospitals, officials said.
At least 25 people died Friday night at the Jaipur Golden Hospital in Delhi due to lack of oxygen. Twenty-five people died at Sir Gangaram Hospital.
