New Delhi: Twenty-five Covid patients have died in 24 hours at the Gangaram Hospital in Delhi due to severe oxygen shortage, hospital officials said. 60 people are in critical condition. The hospital has only two hours to provide oxygen. The medical director also demanded that oxygen be delivered as soon as possible.
Various hospitals in Delhi have already come out with reports of oxygen scarcity. In the last few days, oxygen has been delivered for emergencies. But now there is a situation where even that is not available. Oxygen shortages began to affect smaller hospitals as well. Many hospitals are preparing to approach the High Court for access to oxygen. Meanwhile, the Union Home Ministry has directed the states not to obstruct vehicles carrying oxygen. The Delhi High Court had earlier reprimanded the Center for exacerbating the shortage of oxygen in hospitals following the outbreak.
In Delhi, it was decided to reduce the Covid test to only symptomatic health workers. Only those who have been diagnosed with the disease are advised to stay in quarantine. The new decision comes in the wake of a shortage of health workers. The decision was taken at a Covid review meeting chaired by the AIIMS director.
