Imphal: The Manipur government has withdrawn an earlier order by local authorities against providing food and setting up refugee camps for Myanmar nationals entering India. The order, dated March 26, called on border officials to repatriate asylum seekers in India.
Gyan Prakash, Special Home Secretary to the State Government, said that the government has decided to withdraw the letter dated 26.03.2021 mentioned above to avoid this misunderstanding as the contents of the letter have been misinterpreted and misinterpreted.
The government is taking all humanitarian measures, including transporting injured Myanmar civilians to Imphal for treatment. He said in the letter that the state government would continue to provide all assistance. Myanmar’s Ambassador to the United Nations has requested India and various border states to grant asylum to Myanmar refugees.
There was a widespread protest against the BJP government’s order in Manipur. Many criticized the move as inhumane and against the hospitality and culture of the country.
