Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Electoral Officer Tikaram Meena has asked the candidates contesting the Assembly elections to clarify their criminal background. This should be explained along with the nomination papers. It will also have to explain why a candidate with no criminal background could not be found.
The criminal background of the candidate should be advertised on social media and on the party’s website within 48 hours of nominating the candidate or two weeks before receiving the nomination. It has to be advertised through the media three times. He said a copy of the advertisement should be submitted to the commission within 72 hours of selecting the candidate.
