New Delhi: Bird flu has been confirmed in Delhi and Maharashtra. This brings to nine the number of states in the country where bird flu has been confirmed. Earlier, bird flu was confirmed in three samples in Delhi, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat.

Vigilance was intensified as the disease was found in birds in more places. The Parliamentary Standing Committee will convene an emergency meeting today to assess the situation. Central Animal Husbandry Department officials will explain things before the committee.
